Back to the Future
This week, Richard Branson’s company, Virgin Galactic, made history with their first commercial flight into space. The Unity spaceship launched from Spaceport USA, just outside of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. It was a monumental achievement not just for Virgin Galactic, but for the State of New Mexico and Spaceport USA.
I’ve spent a lot of time in New Mexico and hold a special place in my heart for the American Southwest. New Mexico feels like a unique blend of the past and the future coexisting beautifully. It’s home to over 20 Native American tribes that continue to thrive, while also being a hub for forward-thinking companies like Facebook, Intel, and Virgin Galactic.
One nonprofit organization close to my heart is Eve’s Fund for Native American Health Initiatives. Their mission is to promote health and wellness for young Native Americans living on the Navajo Nation, spanning Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah.
Many of Eve’s Fund’s ambassadors still live on tribal land, where they work to educate the next generation of Native American youth about safety—whether it’s wearing seatbelts while driving or helmets while riding bikes or motorcycles. They engage with kids in schools, helping them stay safe and informed.
As the world rushes forward, I believe it’s crucial to remember that both the past and the future can coexist and push humanity forward for the greater good.
To the next generation of dreamers: If we can do this, imagine what we can do. – Sir Richard Branson
